This “Common Chemicals” presentation was developed to help attendees review chemical characteristics and hazards.

How these chemicals are used and where they can be found in our communities. Often, people get alarmed when dangerous industrial chemicals are produced, transported and used in areas in which we work, play and live in. The same people, to include many of us, are totally unaware or the hidden dangers of simple, common, everyday chemicals can seriously harm us in our daily lives. Come and learn why this presentation was put together to help industry loss prevention people, emergency responders and emergency managers be smarter about the chemicals around them in their work, industries and transportation! Matt and Brittany provided the latest updates in which those responsible for overseeing the safety compliance requirements of their commercial fleet. The FMCSA’s redesigned Safety Measurement System (SMS), with the purpose to providing easier access to resources to help carriers improve safety compliance was reviewed. Additionally, what’s public (BASIC) and what’s private information (Crash Indicators and HazMat Compliance) was reviewed.

Brittany DeVries obtained her OSHM degree from Grand Valley State University. She has nine year of professional safety experience covering electrical utility companies such as DTE Energy and Kent Power and interstate commercial transportation. She is also a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist.
