Join us for a focused session on how organizations can strengthen safety performance by shifting hazard risk assessments from a traditional compliance activity to an operations-driven practice. This topic will highlight how frontline involvement transforms risk assessments into action, real-time insights that reflect the true dynamics of work.
We’ll explore how operational ownership improves hazard recognition, elevates the quality of assessments, and embeds risk awareness into daily decision-making. By placing the assessment process in the hands of those closest to the work, organizations can generate more actionable information and reduce exposure before incidents occur.
A central theme of the session will be the development of a proactive risk metric, one that trends residual risk scoring, and a hierarchy of controls approach to reducing risk. This forward-looking metric provides leaders with a clearer understanding of organizational exposure, allowing for targeted interventions, informed resource allocation, and strategic improvements.
Learning Objectives:
1. Explain how shifting hazard risk assessments from a compliance-driven task to an operations-led process improves hazard recognition, assessment quality, and day-to-day risk awareness.
2. Demonstrate methods for building operator capability in identifying hazards, evaluating controls, and applying a consistent residual risk-rating approach.
3. Develop a proactive risk metric that trends residual risk and supports targeted interventions, resource allocation, and continuous improvement.
4. Identify effective strategies for integrating risk assessment outputs into dashboards, scorecards, and operational decision-making.
5. Evaluate opportunities to strengthen collaboration between operations, engineering, and EHS to enhance ownership and effectiveness of the hazard assessment process.
