Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere. In our pockets, on our desks, in manufacturing, on construction sites, and in our garages. From EV charging stations, forklifts, warehouses, and power tools, these batteries are integrated into our lives. This session will provide guests with what exposures are in their workplace & homes and steps to minimize that loss potential. We will learn what makes up a Lithium-Ion battery, why they are so difficult to extinguish, what steps fire departments are taking to combat this, and what your insurance carrier’s stance is on this special hazard.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify common locations and applications of lithium-ion batteries in occupational and residential environments.
2. Recognize the hazards associated with lithium-ion batteries, including the concepts and risks of thermal runaway.
3. Explain the challenges involved in extinguishing lithium-ion battery fires.
4. Apply best practices to minimize lithium-ion battery hazards at work, on construction sites, and at home.
