9:00am-10:00am   Total Worker Health® 101

Chia-Chia Chang, MPH, MBA, NIOSH

Learn about Total Worker Health® approaches and how fitting the job to the worker can impact organizational and worker outcomes, such as improved safety, health, and well-being.

10:00am-11:00am Total Worker Health® and Ergonomics

What is Total Worker Health® and how does it intersect with ergonomics? There is a direct correlation between health and wellness and a person’s ability to prevent and mitigate ergonomic and safety risks.  We will explore the physiological and psychosocial health factors that need to be considered when addressing these risks. To deploy effective programs and strategies to affect ergonomic improvements we must be educated on how health and wellness affects the behaviors and physical capabilities of employees. There are eight dimensions of wellness. Addressing each area of wellness can improve movement patterns, productivity, culture, and health. Wellness affects an employee’s ability to be mentally cut-in to the job and reduce distractions. Health factors of proper nutrition, hydration, and sleep health have a direct effect on the physiology of the human body and its ability to respond to changes in musculoskeletal and mental health. Finally, we will discuss how purpose drives changes. To have employees make any change in an area of wellness we need to know how to help them consider change through what already drives them. What is their why?

11:15am-12:45pm Improving Ergonomics with Technology

Heather Chapman CSP, CHMM, CEAS Paradigm Safety

The impact of using safety technology in engineering and safety cannot be ignored. Understanding how to use data and AI-vision processing to identify and mitigate safety risks, improve processes, and prevent workplace injuries is crucial for learning in today’s world if you want to be at the forefront of industry and competition. Furthermore, deploying injury prevention technology in an organization involves a comprehensive and strategic approach that encompasses multiple stages and requires careful planning.

In the session, we’ll discuss a variety of tools for ergonomic evaluations and MSD injury prevention.  We’ll also cover organizational readiness and challenges to the implementation of technology.

LUNCH 12:45pm-1:15pm

1:15pm-2:45 pm Workplace Ergonomics

Gus Hemingway and Michelle Marine, Corewell Health

In this presentation we will be looking at identifying ergonomic issues and how to manage them. We will take time to recognize common ergonomic related injuries. Our focus will be on the onsite management of ergonomic related injuries and issues. We will also bring awareness to different ergonomic assessments. While briefly touching on technological assets in reducing risk for ergonomic injuries.
