ABOUT THE ROLE:

The VP of Safety is responsible for leadership of the safety team as well as collaboration with the executive team, operations and execution teams. This position works closely with Executives, Pre-Construction, Business Development, People Operations and Marketing Departments, supports Execution Teams to ensure safety is a core value across the organization, and supports the company’s overall business strategies and risk mitigation. This position is responsible for the overall creation and development, and maintenance of an effective Environment Health Safety and Sustainability strategy and program for the organization and its projects. This position is accountable for identification during the marketing/business development, pre-construction, and execution phases of projects to ensure minimized risk, company compliance and administration of Corporate, State, Federal, Local and Industry safety standards, laws, and guidelines identified in all aspects of projects. This position manages the safety team providing support and guidance on the execution of safety for projects across the organization.

  1. The VP of Safety reports directly to the VP of Operations.
  2. VP of Safety is a full-time FLSA exempt position. It requires 40 work hours per week and the ability to work more if required.

ABOUT YOU (The required stuff):

  1. Bachelors Degree in Safety, Construction Management, Project Management or Engineering (or equivalent field experience)
  2. 5+ years field experience
  3. Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite of products: Outlook, word, excel, project, power point (Desired knowledge includes: Timberscan, Procore)

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Safety Manager ensures the safety of our employee owners and facilities through establishing and implementing policies and procedures to maintain a safe workplace. This individual seeks to identify potential hazards and proactively develops solutions. Specifically, the individual in this role: 

  • Developing and delivering effective safety onboarding training to new employee owners.
  • Developing, delivers, and tracks recurring safety training. 
  • Ensuring employee owners adhere to company policies and procedures. 
  • Developing and maintaining MIOSHA/OSHA compliance programs and recordkeeping. 
  • Conducting hazard finding and correction surveys independently and with site leaders. 
  • Overseeing the successful implementation of EHS programs across multiple locations, operations, and states. 
  • Driving proactive EHS initiatives that match the company’s core values and external requirements and drives continuous improvement in those areas. 
  • Effectively communicates EHS needs and initiatives with stakeholders at every level. 
  • Developing KPI’s and providing direction for EHS KPI’s and metrics and make them visible to stakeholders at all levels. 
  • Guiding, coaching, and empowering safety leadership at all levels within the organization. 
  • Building strong relationships with employee owners and applicable vendors. 
  • Preparing and reporting out on regulatory requirements such as OSHA logs, insurance program requirements, and environmental reporting 
  • Coordinating safety-related facilities tasks including fire systems inspection, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, roof condition reports, insurance surveys, major installations, subcontractors, nonroutine construction activities, emergency response programs, and other general facilities tasks as needed 
  • Advocating for employee owners who are injured on the job with their healthcare professionals and claims TPA. 
  • Receiving, investigating, mitigating, and managing workers compensation and vehicle claims 
  • Adhering to the company’s proactive return to work policy and workers compensation mission statement 
  • Leading proactive fleet safety initiatives and managing continuous improvement. 
  • Coordinating facility maintenance, upgrades, and upkeep 
  • Assisting with other tasks/projects as needed. 

Ideal candidates for this role have a solid knowledge of EHS practices and desire to build and execute an inclusive safety program. This position offers opportunities to influence and educate others and effectively manage risk and will involve occasional travel (approximately 10%) to ensure consistency of the program across all locations. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety or a related field 
  • 1-3 years’ prior leadership experience preferred. 
  • 1-3 years’ experience effectively implementing EHS practices preferred.

Occupational Safety Advisor 9-12 – Safety Consultant (CET)

Job Description

Occupational Safety Advisors provide occupational safety consultation and advice to general industry businesses, unions, trade organizations, employee and employer associations, schools, colleges, municipalities, counties, and other state agencies in their assigned geographical area. Safety consultants complete a variety of professional tasks such as review and evaluate work practices and processes, equipment, policies and procedures, and safety and health management systems to assess adequacy of worker protection. Provides advice to employers in the implementation of programs to improve workplace safety. Consultants identify potential hazards, make recommendations to correct hazards, and help solve existing safety problems consistent with the requirements of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act and best practices. Occupational safety consultants develop, organize, and conduct safety training at the employer’s site. Consultants also assist with the design of course curriculum, develop course materials, and conduct training for the MIOSHA Training Institute (MTI).

Signing Bonus of $5,000:  An initial $2,500 signing bonus with the remaining $2,500 of the signing bonus paid upon completion of 2,080 hours of satisfactory service. Bonus must be paid back if employee leaves the department within one year of appointment. Bonus is limited to newly hired employees into state service in 2024. Current state employees are ineligible.
