Walinga USA is a leader in the worldwide Ag Industry for customized manufacturing of bulk feed trailers with additional locations in Iowa, Canada and Australia. Walinga USA takes pride in quality craftsmanship and superb customer satisfaction. Our location in Wayland manufactures highly specialized trailers for hauling animal feed and grains. Each trailer is designed and built to meet individual customer specifications and exceed expectations.
The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing health and safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. This role involves conducting safety audits, training staff on health and safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The coordinator will work closely with all departments to promote a culture of safety and minimize workplace risks.

Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in line with current Federal and State occupational regulations.
- Ensure that all employees are informed and trained on the health and safety practices to ensure compliance
- Coordinate and lead monthly safety committe meetings
- Conduct regular risk assessments and identify potential extent of hazards in the workplace, developing loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies for the organization.
- Recommend corrective actions and preventive measures to mitigate risks.
- Monitor the effectiveness of safety measures and adjust as necessary.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports.
- Recommend correction actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain accurate records of all incidents and ensure compliance and reporting requirements, including OSHA and MIOSHA
- Ensure that all employees have the necessary safety equipment and certifications and that they are kept up to date
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies such as fire departments and inspectors as required.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
- Conduct regular drills and training sessions for preparedness for emergencies.
- Liaise with other Walinga Health and Safety staff across Walinga.
- Stay updated with industry best practices and changes in legislation.
- Promote a culture of health and safety through ongoing communication and engagement with employees.
Skill & Knowledge Requirements:
- OSHA30 – General Industry certification preferred
- Two to three years previous experience in occupational health and safety role
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, interface with staff in a professional and courteous manner and make sound decisions.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office and Google Docs with ability to learn new systems.
- High degree of attention to detail.
- Organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Perform multiple duties in a high-energy, fast-paced working environment.
Other Requirements: Must pass physical and drug screen.
