Position Summary:
Establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident-free, and healthy work environment by performing the following duties personally or through teams. Serves as the primary technical leader, with a broad knowledge of environmental, occupational health, and safety requirements. Represents the Division as the main liaison with governmental regulators on environmental, occupational health, and safety issues.
Organizes, directs, implements, and maintains the Division’s environmental, occupational health, and safety strategies and objectives. Plans and directs projects and develops long-term strategies and plans to meet future needs.
Develops, reviews, and maintains budgets and expenses for materials, equipment, travel, etc., ensuring conformity to plan. Develops and implements the Division’s environmental, occupational health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with governmental regulations and the Division’s commitment to workplace safety, health, and environmental responsibility. Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Position Responsibilities:
The duties listed below require technical and business knowledge to perform independent problem solving and decision making with broad direction given on assignments. Decisions and actions have major impact on division’s long-term successes. This is a technical leadership role, responsible for providing vision and direction on technical assignments.
- Serves as primary technical leader, possessing a diversified knowledge of environmental, occupational health and safety requirements. Works with internal and external contacts at all levels within the organization and represents the Division by serving as primary liaison with governmental regulators on environmental and safety issues. Serves as a consultant for the division on matters pertaining to policies, plans, strategies, and objectives.
- Organizes, directs, implements, and maintains environmental, occupational health and safety strategies and objectives. Plans and directs complex projects involving multiple disciplines. Benchmarks to domestic competition and develops plans to meet future needs.
- Develops technical strategies / plans to meet future needs and growth opportunities. Develops, reviews, and maintains budgets and expenses for materials, equipment, travel, etc., ensuring conformity to plan.
- Develops and implements Division’s occupational health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with governmental regulation and Division’s commitment to workplace safety and environmental responsibility.
- Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
- Conducts training, waste disposal, sampling, waste determinations and reporting as required. Occasionally transports hazardous waste to 90-day accumulation areas. Completes LDAR monitoring on hazardous waste system.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Industrial Environmental Health Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental or related field
- 5+ years of diverse professional and managerial EHS experience manufacturing required; automotive experience ideal)
- Strong technical knowledge and expertise in occupational health, safety, and environmental areas with understanding of governmental / legal requirements for respective areas.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills to work with internal and external contacts at all levels within the organization, represent the division in a professional manner, and to sell concepts and strategies to internal management.
- Demonstrated project management leadership and strategic decision-making skills and proven financial capabilities including budgetary responsibility.
- Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.
